Noah found grace

Noah fand Gnade

The Bible contains many stories of people who experienced God's grace. Noah is actually the first man in whom the word grace appears. Noah lived in a time when the world was characterized by injustice and violence. But what makes Noah so special, and how is God's grace evident in his story?

The world at the time of Noah

The story of Noah begins in the Book of Genesis (Genesis 6). At that time, humanity was permeated by sin and wickedness. God saw that man's heart was evil and decided to cleanse the earth with a flood. But in the midst of this darkness, God found a ray of light—Noah.

Noah's Faith and Grace

Noah is described in the Bible as "righteous" and "perfect" (Genesis 6:9). He lived in close relationship with God and followed His commandments. These qualities made him an ideal candidate for the great work God had planned. Yet, grace is mentioned first. We can never satisfy God unless divine grace first reveals His work.

God's grace was demonstrated by not only protecting Noah from impending judgment but also commissioning him to build an ark. This ark would serve not only as a lifeboat for Noah and his family, but also for a variety of animals—a sign of God's care for his creation.

The meaning of the ark

The ark itself is a powerful symbol of God's grace and of Jesus Christ, who came to this earth as grace incarnate. The ark also represents protection and salvation in the midst of chaos. As the flood swept across the earth, Noah found refuge in the ark—a picture of how we can be saved through faith in the work of the Lord Jesus on the cross.

A new beginning

After the Flood, God made a covenant with Noah (Genesis 9), promising never to destroy the earth with water again. The sign of this covenant was the rainbow—a beautiful symbol of hope and grace.

Noah thus became not only the first person in the Bible to experience God's grace, but also a role model for all subsequent generations. His story teaches us important lessons about faith, obedience, and trust in God's plan.

Living with hope

Noah's life reminds us that even in the darkest times, God's grace is at work. It shows us that through our faith in Him we can find protection and that there is always hope for a new beginning.

Let us live inspired by Noah's example – standing righteously and blamelessly before God, both receiving and sharing his grace.
